A decade-long photographic exploration of Canada examines national identity through landscapes, communities and everyday life from coast to coast.
Photographer Taylor Roades travelled through every part of the country to make the images collected in A Ribbon of Highway. Rather than reducing Canada to familiar landmarks, she moves between recognizable places and remote communities that differ sharply in geography, history, economy and daily life.
The photographs are grounded in first-person travel and close observation. Roades looks for the cultural threads that connect regions without erasing local character, placing iconic landscapes beside smaller details and ordinary scenes that reveal how people inhabit different parts of the country.
The result is both a travel document and a photographic inquiry into Canadian identity. Readers who know parts of Canada will encounter familiar visual cues alongside places they may never have seen, making the book useful to photography, Canadian studies, travel, regional-history and gift collections.
