Is the Mission Workshop MW6 Performance Cap the ideal hiking hat?

BY PAIGE TRIOLA

When I head out for a hike or run, a hat is as much of a staple of my outfit as a pair of trail shoes. Over the years, I've gone through many iterations of headwear: from coffee shop-branded trucker hats (bulky and easily sweat-stained) to pancake-flat running caps (too shallow to stay on my head—which is normal-sized, thank you) to a short fling with a bucket hat (trapped heat and made me look like Gilligan).

But at long last, I’ve found the hat, the one that has so far checked all the boxes: the Mission Workshop MW6 Performance Cap. The MW6 isn’t flashy; there’s no branding in sight, and its neutral olive color (it also comes in black) means it goes with everything. Aside from aesthetics, it’s a dream to wear. This hat has proven its value on hot summer hikes, trail runs, and a 14-mile mountain race. Its light, stretchy fabric is ultra comfy and breathable, plus it’s treated with a water-repellent finish so light rain won't soak it. In the back is a simple velcro strap for quick adjustments.

What I don’t love about this hat is its price. At $65, it’s roughly double what I would typically spend on a good hat—but this is a great hat, and I’ve been looking for one like this for a long time. And, theoretically, its a hat I won’t have to replace as often as I might other cheaper options. With its sleek look, secure fit, and airy feel, it might just be the hat you’ve been searching for, too.
